Did you know that you can turn a tree stump into a beautiful and original piece of home furniture and that it is a very nice idea to use a tree trunk slice as a tray or to turn it into lots of decorative items ?
Let me give you some ideas.
Furniture
Tree trunk seats on wheels. Very confortable to move them around the house!
As a side table.
As garden furniture.
To use them as coffee tables you could place a piece of glass as a top.
Or you can paint the table top (and/or the trunk itself) in your favorite color.
What do you think of this gorgeous tree trunk bench?
A tree stump as a sink pedestal !! Love this!!!
Or turn a tree trunk slice into a tray!
Besides the functional use, a tree trunk could be given a more decorative function and could be turned into the following items.
As into this gorgeous table lamp.
Or into a Christmas decorative item as Axel Vervoordt did at the entrance of his castle last year.
Or you can use the slices as wall covering! How original is this!!
Or you could use a hollowed out tree trunk as a sort of vase!
Axel Vervoordt removed a Rhododendron branch from his garden into this hollowed out trunk.
You can use it as an umbrella stand.

And a splendid idea is the put a serie of canes into it! Very decorative to place in your entry hall!
All these examples above wouldn’t cost you that much if you could find a tree trunk in a nearest forest and if you could try to make your favorite tree trunk item yourself! Yes, a DIY project!
I do hope I inspired you today?!

Wow!!! Let's talking about inspiration!!! Love, love, love this post! I think it's genius to use some rustic materials, just the way you've showed here. Aren't they gorgeous? Pieces of art, direct from Nature!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, Greet!

ReplyDeletei think it is a really clever look.

I used to have two pieces of lovely eucalyptus trunks (which I found on the roadside!) when we lived in Brazil, and I placed terra cotta pots with plants on them. So lovely. I love these ideas, especially the sink pedestal!
ReplyDeleteWhat great ideas, Greet. This would be PERFECT for the lake house!
ReplyDeleteI hope that all is well with you.

Oh I love the castle photo you took--so clever and beautiful. I used a wood stump as a side table in my son's room--looks rustic and masculine and chic! have a great day Greet!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful ideas here, anything that brings the nature in I just love, and anything that has a woodsy, earthy rustic element I think adds so much character to a room/space. This is like the ultimate tree trunk inspiration post..if you can't find it here, it doesn't exist!!
ReplyDeleteAfter our big storms and hurricane I collected some stumps and big slices from Maples that had fallen here in Conn. USA. It took two strong men to move a five inch thick slice of Maple... it was DENSE. I was told by the men who cut trees that if I didn't "season" the stumps that the beautiful bark would fall off as it dried... Greet , do you have any info about how to handle the wood so that it stays in its natural state? I just love that tree trunk bench.... so whimsical!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful inspiration for fall or any time of year! Love the wallcovering and umbrella stand and have a wonderful bowl I use for fruit. Will definitely look into stumps for Christmas decor.

I love the first ones on casters and the second one that looks like the wood is petrified...or as a tray...that's great too! What a cool post....
ReplyDeleteGrand Post + thanks Greet xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteThis post made me smile because the very first piece of furniture I bought (in the 70's) was a gorgeous 3 foot natural piece of driftwood. I still use it today as the base for my glass topped coffee table.
ReplyDeleteMarguerite - It's my understanding you can prevent termites by adding a capful of bleach to every gallon of water, and soaking it overnight. Any other ideas?
Greet, I love the tree trunk as sink pedestal and the slices used as serving trays. How creative and rustic.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day...Victoria
Love it!
ReplyDeleteInnovative, artistic, unique (so far!)
Beautiful thoughts to give nature another purpose!
Cool!

Love treetrunks ... especially when they are used as planters. Special, former tree holds new life.

You showed us some really great ideas! Love the tray and side table ideas and all you would have to do is sand very smooth and give it a coat of butchers wax, I think I might try the lamp idea for the husband. Silly us and all this time we were simply cutting our wood up for the wood stove.
ReplyDeleteHello Greet,
ReplyDeleteI have been eying these types of tree furniture for awhile as I've been drawn to their simplicity and honesty...very lovely ideas...
best,
maureen
I love them as stools on casters in the first image. I helped a friend once do a stool for her son's forest themed room and we forgot to seal the stump and some little critters came out!

I love all these uses for a tree trunk. I've seen tree trunks used as stools & side tables, but never as a sink pedestal - very cool! Love the look of the rhododendron branch in the hollowed out trunk, and the wall covered in tree trunk slices is really unique :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post, Greet! I love the cupcakes set up and the umbrella stand best. Hoop dat je een prettige Herfst hebt, ik geloof dat het nog mooi weer is. xo Lidy
ReplyDeleteHello dear Greet,
ReplyDeleteThose are fabulous! I love the idea of using the tree trunks as furniture. I have used them as chairs at a table out of necessity, but never imagined they would become chic!
Hugs, Cindy
I love the serving trays! Also, Lampworks makes a beautiful aspen bark lamp that is gorgeous: http://i.imgwww.com/img/i/2007/500.jpg
ReplyDeleteI love all the wonderful natural organic ideas - not to mention stylish!!
ReplyDeleteWell,Plants are so good for the air quality in your home. I also planted bonsai and flower pots at my home. I have always struggled a bit trying to display them and fit them into the decor.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Greet,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post this is! A trunk on casters (as a sidetable) I have been wanting myself. Perhaps an umbrella stand for Hubby this Christmas! Very clever.

Hi Greet, I love these ideas, and hope to find a hollow trunk someday to use like the one is Axel Vervoordt's oriental salon photo. Thanks for stopping by the Garvinweasel blog today, and have a great week!

Hey there! I realize this is somewhat off-topic however I had to ask.
ReplyDeleteDoes running a well-established blog such as yours take a large
amount of work? I'm completely new to running a blog however I do write in my journal on a daily basis. I'd like to
start a blog so I can easily share my experience and
feelings online. Please let me know if you have any kind of
recommendations or tips for brand new aspiring bloggers.
Thankyou!
